Auto-ignition of hydrocarbons in turbulent flow environments plays a key role in many engineered combustion systems. The ignition in diesel or HCCI engines is specifically initiated by these complex processes and thus serves millions of individual locomotion. However, self-ignition processes also have unwanted phenomena, e.g. B. as knocking in gasoline engines is highly relevant. The subject of this thesis is the experimental investigation of the self-ignition of hydrocarbons in turbulent flows with the aim of describing these spatiotemporally highly dynamic processes and thus gaining a profound understanding of them. These analyzes are carried out on a self-ignition test bench, which is unique in the world and whose operating parameters and operating parameters are described in detail in this work. Further investigations on the occurring flames show an analysis of the global flame structure depending on a wide parameter variation as well as comprehensive analyzes of the formation and the temporal development of self-ignition cores in the surrounding flow field using combinative time-resolved laser diagnostics. The results of all investigations in their entirety also form the basis of a validation database for numerical simulations of self-ignition processes.
